Kelantan Trip 2010
The class trip to Kelantan was awesome! Not only did i get to spend time with my friends, and lecturer, i got to explore malaysia's finest traditional art and culture. The first thing that comes into my head about Kelantan is just some people living in a rural area, but when i got there, it was more than that. Yes its alot of rural people but, the way of living is more exciting and some what wilder than KL.
The first night we watched a main putri performance. Main putri is a healing ritual, healing in terms of the spirit not health. Basically a a tok putri will do a stylized movement and chants to heal a patient. A patient may suffer from lots of things such as the lost of angin and semangat, or even a daily life probelms. A main putri is performed for 4 hours a night and it may go on for 3 nights.
The second night we watched a wayang kulit performance ( Shadow Puppetery) . It is perfomed by a dalang, a dalang is a person who encapsulates a a story from life and performs them using puppets. Amazingly, the dalang that performed for us played 7 different characters at once. This dalang has been doing shadow puppetry for 30 years, and started at the age of 16.
For me the main putri performance is more intense than the wayng kulit because there were certain parts that had fast paced movements and heavy music. The serunai gives the intensity of the mood. Wayang kulit however is more relaxing as is is perfomed behind a white sheet/cloth. Usually a wayang kulit story consist of tales like the ramayana, but that night, the story was a bit different as the dalang add in some comical element.
But this trip was too short and im really looking forward for the next one, if there is a next one. So far i find kelantan very interesting and its a good getaway place from the city. I urge all of you to visit kelantan for a change, get out of your comfort zone and be adventerous.

PROJECT:DeClassified
PROJECT: DeClassified is a devised performance created by the March '09 intake with the help of their lecturers over a period of 8 weeks. The devised performance consists of elements such as the newspaper's classified ads, the Over Head Projector, music, and many more. We spent a lot of time researching every detail of every ad and also exploring and incorporating it into movements and images. We voted on using “The Star” classifieds, 27 January, 2010, mainly because it was the most updated at the time of our research. We finally chose several interesting ads and turned them into performances through research like calling the sellers/employers. All our scripts are based on the real life interviews. Our explorations and process with the classified ads have helped us understand and identify the kind of society living in the Klang Valley. And through these performances we aim to show the audience how complex, interesting and diverse the truth and beauty of society is taken for granted in the daily classified ads.

East-Cost Holiday, Chinese new year 2010
Hey there people, its been a while since my last post and i have to say, i ran out of stories and will to write my blog untill a recent memorable holiday which is the chinese new year. I had a one week break of college. Me and my family went on a trip to kuantan and terengganu. Kuantan is my hometown (kampong), and this would we my first trip to terengganu cause iv never been there. A few of my relatives are there.
We went to kuantan first for 2 days of the 5 day trip. We stayed at Swiss-Garden Resort, its a very lovely, elegant and peaceful resort. Me and my family went to the beach, swim in the pool, etc. I also visited my grandparents at their new home (which is very far from town). The reason they moved out is because the previous house was broken in-to many times.
The next day, we travelled to Kuala Terengganu and stayed there for 3 days. Before we got there, we stopped by a resort called Awana Kijal golf resort. That place caught my dad's attention because its a paradise heaven for golfers. He then immediately called my uncle and told him about the place and soon after he booked a golf set for them to play on the last day. Anyway back to terengganu, when we first reached there, we visited my cousin's place, and the house is like a mansion.
I can assume that he is one of the very few rich people living in a rural place. The fun was just about to get started, firstly with the nightlife, the restaurants there are amazing not just in terms of the food, but also the location of the restaurant, which is by the beach side.Amazing. The people there are much friendlier than KL people ( no offense). Terengganu is famous for its clothing design which is the batik. We visited alot of batik shops, well actually my parents did, i just tag along, and i have to admit, the designs were fasinating and it seems original in terms of their patterns.
We had a chance to visit the batik 'factory' called Noor Arfa. This is where they made batik from A-Z and we even get to see a bit of demonstration of batik making. My dad even got a couple of batik shirts for himself, even my mom didnt get one, surprising. We also had a chance to visit the famous masjid kristal (Crystal Mosque). It is located in the middle of the river and we had a cruise tour around the river. It is said that the mosque is made out of steel, concrite and crystal (the top part atleast). The Crystal shines at night and its a beautiful scene.
The east-cost trip ended at Awana Kijal wherby my dad and uncle stayed there just to play golf, we were supposedly to go back earlier. It was not so bad, the place was very nice, big, and lots of outdoor activity. The last few days was just a relaxing time for me as i get to explore the beach and the culture of terengganu.

Welcome 2010!!
I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year, hope everyone had a great 2009. Whatever mistakes or wrong doings that we've done, we just have to learn from it and move on and focus on the future. A new year means new changes within yourself and the situation around us. This year will be a blast for football fans as the 2010 world cup is coming up! Some of you might have alot of new years resolution, some of you may not, but so far i only have 3:
1. Never commit to anything that you cant cope with
2. Try to keep my hair for as long as i can
3. Finish all assignments on time to avoid headaches and heartaches.
So stay safe, and have a good year ahead. CHEERS!!!!
